A Tribute to Miss V: SMU’s Heart at Starbucks

For many SMU students, Starbucks wasn’t just a coffee shop—it was a sanctuary, a space where friendships were formed, dreams were encouraged, and countless smiles were shared. At the heart of this beloved hub was Miss V, the woman who made it all feel like home. Over her six years on campus, Vonedra Choice wasn’t just serving coffee; she was serving hope, love, and support to everyone who crossed her path.

As a student from out of state, I found in Miss V a second mom—someone who cared deeply, knew me by name, and greeted me with a warmth that brightened even my hardest days. She became a constant in the busy lives of so many, reminding us that we were seen, valued, and loved.

This feeling wasn’t mine alone; countless others felt her profound impact. One of those being, senior student, Bella Edmondson; she fondly shares her own experience of Miss V’s profound impact:

"Stopping at Starbucks every morning started to become less about the coffee than it did the people. Miss V learned my name and my order – a Venti iced coffee with almond milk. She was always there to greet me with a smile. Through some of the most challenging days of my life, she made me feel seen. But I know I am just one of many who have felt Miss V’s uplifting spirit."

"I have watched her over the past three years impact every single person that comes through her line. College is a place of triumphs and trials, and Miss V wanted to be there for all of it. She once said to me, ‘I see the power of coffee beyond the caffeine kick. It’s a chance to make someone’s day a little better. I just try to give you all the love and inspiration that I can every single day.’ This sums up Miss V perfectly.”

Bella’s words beautifully capture the essence of who Miss V is: a source of light, comfort, and unwavering support for everyone who crossed her path. Her dedication to spreading love and inspiration has left a lasting mark on the SMU community.

Today, Miss V asked me to share this heartfelt message with all the students, faculty, and staff she’s cherished over the years as her time at SMU comes to an end.

To My Students and Friends at SMU:

My name is Vonedra Choice, affectionately known as Miss V. It’s with a heavy heart that I’m writing this, but my time on campus has ended. From the moment I walked on campus six years ago, you all have been an inspiration and light in my life. It was my sincerest pleasure serving each and every one of you.

If I ever called you by name, you will be remembered. Each person, every cup, every smile, every hug, every student that checked on me during those frustrating days, the ENTIRE FOOTBALL team, every professor and staff member who could have gone to any other location but chose mine, and all the encouraging words will ring loudly in my heart.

I may not be on campus, but SMU is in my heart. I want every student to achieve their dreams, realize their potential, and remember me. I love you all. I would love to hear from you, so I’m on social media under my name. Please reach out and let me know where life takes you.

And as I end this letter but never my love, I want you all to know that MISS V LOVES EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU. PONY UP! ❤️💙
